NBA Playoffs VS. Holy Week
The regular season for the NBA just ended yesterday. Unfortunately, my Warriors tanked to finish the season and missed the playoffs despite having a better record than last year and having their best season in about 10+ years. But I'm an NBA junkie so it doesn't really matter if my home team isn't in the playoffs or not, I always end up watching the playoffs no matter what (13 years in a row with no playoffs for the Warriors will do that to you). It's where amazing happens. (Yes, I bought into the marketing.) So the first games start this Saturday. This is going to be one of the best NBA playoffs ever since the western conference is so closely packed. There is no one team that is dominant in any series in the west. Any team could beat any other team in the first round. The east on the other hand is a joke. They should just skip the first 2 rounds and move to the eastern conference finals which we all know will be Detroit and Boston.
Holy Week is also starting next week. Lazarus Saturday is this Saturday when we all get together at church and clean it for the upcoming Holy Week and prepare the palm leaves for Palm Sunday. It's one of the best times of the year for me. I love my church and this year is going to be special as we have some really great plans in the works for this year's Holy Week.
But this year Holy Week and the NBA playoff start at the same time. So what am I supposed to do? Miss out on Holy Week to watch what will probably the most intriguing NBA playoffs possibly ever? Or skip the playoffs to partake in the suffering of Our Lord Jesus Christ? When I put it that way, the decision is easy. I love basketball and the NBA but I love God more. So the solution that most people recommend is a DVR which of course I have. Getting the games recorded isn't the problem. It's just that there is so many games and so little time to watch them. So here is my schedule: Morning Pascha 7-8am, Work 8am-5pm, Afternoon Pascha 11am-1pm, Evening Pascha 6-9pm. I am not sure I will be able to make the morning Pascha because I will have to be at work by 8am and afternoon Pascha will be nearly impossible since there is no way I can take a 2 hour lunch + driving time from work to church and back. But I digress.... Back to the NBA playoff situation. The only time I will be able to watch any of the games that I record will be after 9pm. If I fast forward through everything, I think I can watch 2 games in 3 hours. I will have to forget about watching the east playoffs and stick to the west which isn't that big a deal since the east sucks. Who wants to see the Detroit and Boston sweep each round? So I should be able to watch the games and get in bed by 12:30 or so each night. I'll be a little sleep deprived but its worth it for the NBA and more importantly God.
