Costco - Where all Egyptians shop

It never fails. Whenever I go to Costco, I will run into someone from church.

Today I'm in Monterey visiting my wife's parents. As usual, we go to Costco to buy food which my mother in-law will cook for us tonight for dinner. Usually when we go to Costco in Monterey, we run into several other families from church. I can imagine everyone at church after the liturgy all planning to go to Costco. They should probably car pool.

It's sort of a tradition for me, since I don't go to Costco all that often, to get a hot dog from the food court. For a $1.50 you get a hot dog and a soda with free refills. It's so cheap that I can't resist and since I'm going to start fasting on the 7th, I figured I would go for it. I load my hot dog up with sour kraut, relish, onions, spicy mustard and a little bit of ketchup. Any real hot dog eater will tell you that putting ketchup on a hot dog is akin to blasphemy but I'm not a hot dog aficionado. I take a seat and get ready to enjoy my creation knowing just how bad it is for me and try not to think what exactly the hot dog is made up and just enjoy it. I feel better getting the polish sausage from Costco as it is advertised as being all beef. Who knows what part of the cow that is used. As I am about to take that first bite, I see a family from the church in Monterey. I stop what I am doing and go over and say hello. The a few bites in, another family walks by. I stop eating and say hello again. Soon after, I find my wife and the first thing she says to me is "Oh my God, we always run into someone at Costco!"

I asked myself, "Why does every Egyptian shop at Costco?" and the answer that I came up with is that every Egyptian loves a bargain. 36 rolls of toilet paper for $12: Egyptians can't resist. A gallon of mayonnaise for $7: Egyptians can't resist. It would cost 4 times as much to get an equivalent amount of mayonnaise from Safeway. It doesn't mater that no Egyptian recipe has ever called for mayonnaise and never will. It's too good of a deal!.

I should take a survey of Egyptian people and see how many of them DO NOT have Costco memberships. I bet 90% or more of Egyptian families will have Costco memberships. The only ones that won't will probably be single Egyptians and students and of those, I would be willing to bet that they go to Costco with their parents .
