I lost my cross :(

Something really awful happened to me last night. I went to soccer practice at church and as I should have expected no one showed up on time which was good because I stopped to get something to eat before going out there and I was late too. Once enough people showed up, we went to the field across the street from church and played soccer. We didn't have much time since Vespers were scheduled to start very soon. We played for a little bit and headed back to church.

I went and put my stuff back in my car and headed into the church. I bent over to take off my shoes and I felt my chain starting to slip off my neck. I quickly grabbed it to find that it had come undone. I looked for the cross and it was gone. I immediately started retracing my steps. I put my shoes back on, walked back to my car. I opened the trunk to see if it had fallen in there when I put my stuff away. I walked back towards the field and spent about an hour scouring the field looking for it. Nothing.

I have had that cross for so long I can't remember. That cross is more well known than me. People don't know me but they know that cross. I keep trying to tell myself that it was only a piece of metal and that it was all messed up anyway from all the years of abuse and neglect. It was tarnished and dirty. I should just forget about it. But I can't. It meant a whole lot more to me than just some $30 piece of silver. I should have known this was going to happen. The chain is even older than the cross and has fallen off a couple times recently. It was probably time to replace the chain in order to protect the cross but I didn't.

I can always try to find a replacement. I was looking on different web sites last night to see if I could find something similar but I couldn't. Even if I did, I would still want my original cross back. It was a very nice cross. It was about 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. It had a rope design around each end of the cross and a criss cross rope at the center. I would get compliments on it all the time. In fact, the lady at the dentist office yesterday told me how nice she thought my cross was. I think she jinxed me.

I have a request to ask for everyone that reads this. Please help me find my cross. It's either some where at church or at the field across the street. I still have hope that it will turn up. If it does not, I ask that you help me to find a similar replacement. I'm really very sad.

Update:

One of my very good friends (I don't like to mention names without their permissions) found a couple of web sites that are selling what looks to me to be the exact same cross that I lost. While it isn't as good as the original I am very happy. I am going to order one pretty soon. I'm just going to hold out for a couple of days to see if the original one turns up.
To the friend that found this for me: DUDE, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
