Day 2: Find a new hotel
We wake up pretty late and head out to try to find some breakfast. He walk up Ocean Dr. again and find what turns out to be a very nice restaurant called the Front Porch Cafe. The prices are reasonable and the food was very good. The service was even better. I had a breakfast burrito and it was once of the best breakfasts that I have had in a very long time. My wife was annoyed by the lady sitting just outside the window at another table (we sat inside for the air conditioning and lack of wait for a table). After breakfast we walk up the road to find a store to get a couple of things. We find a Walgreens and passed by some hotels that were much nicer than ours. After the store, we walk into a couple of and see just what we are missing out on. I ask at a few of them if they have any rooms and what the rate is. We walk back to our hotel and go straight to the front desk and I ask them if we check out now, would they charge us for the entire reservation. They give up after all my complaining and tell me they would only charge me for the one day. We go back and grab our stuff and check out.
Here we are, walking down Collins Ave with our rolling luggage looking for a new hotel. Every taxi that goes by honks at us asking if we need a ride and I just shake my head. I wanted to find a spot with internet so we could try to book something online to get a lower price then what they were quoting me at the front desks. We saw an ice cream place that had a WiFi sign so we walked in at sat down. There was a lady at the enterance that didn't speak good english and was selling time shares. While she was talking to my wife, trying to convince her to go on this time share tour and would get us a free night at a hotel if we stayed 2 nights. It was interesting for a little bit but wasn't worth the hassle after we wasted so much time hearing he sales pitch. My wife has a tough time telling people "No" and walking away. Since we didn't get anything out of them, we needed internet access again but we couldn't sit right outside their office and use the internet there so I found a Starbucks a couple of blocks away. Thank you iPhone! We get to Starbucks and I use the internet to book the Royal Palm which is one of the hotels we walked into for a little bit more than what we were paying for the Chesterfield hotel. We walk over to the hotel and I make sure not to pass by those same people that tried to sell me the time share. I was a little nervous that the reservation wouldn't get to the hotel in the few minutes that it took us to walk to the hotel. It turns out I was right. It took some time but we got our room. The room was much nicer and much quieter than the Chesterfield.
Once we got into our room, we changed our clothes and went out to the beach. The beach was nice but the water was too cold to go swimming. I took a bunch of pictures of the beach. This is what I had been expecting from Miami. After the beach, we went back upstairs and cleaned up then went out to Lincoln Dr. for dinner. We walked up and down Lincoln and decided to go to the restaurant that was recommended to me by a friend called Nexxt Cafe. I ordered a burrito which was pretty good and quite big. I've noticed that to be kind of a theme so far during this trip. Every place that we go to eat has rather large quantities. Tips have also been already added to every bill. After dinner we went back to the hotel and went to sleep.
