Money to Burn
I just saw one of the funniest yet saddest videos ever. Last Saturday night at 10:30PM someone driving a brand new Rolls Royce Phantom coupe rolled into the entrance of an office park having car problems. The car caught fire and burned in the turn out of the entrance. It was all caught on video by security cameras which was able to watch.
For those of you who don't know, the Rolls Royce Phantom is probably one of the most expensive cars in the world. It is probably worth more than my house. Watching it go up in smoke made me feel good because in these economic times, seeing someone with that much money who then spends it on a decadent car makes me a little angry. I am sure the person who owns the car could have bought a very nice BMW or Mercedes and had pretty much the same level of luxury and gave the have the extra few hundred thousand dollars to a much more worthy cause. At the same time, it was really sad because the Phantom is much more than just a car. It's a work of art.
After about 15 minutes of the car burning, you see the fireman show up with their hoses to put it out. Later you see some cops enter the frame and you can tell that they are laughing as they take pictures of the scene. I am sure that those pictures are just for evidence and not for comic relief. The fire gets put out. The owner of the car gets his belongings out and it's loaded on a flat bed tow truck. The driver of the tow truck is kind enough to shovel up the charred remains of the car and load it along side the Phantom.
