Cycling Adventure 9-19-2009

I was supposed to go riding Saturday morning but I got lazy. Imaginary friends are just not that good when it comes to motivation. I woke up early because the dog won't let me sleep later than 5:30AM and ended up sitting on my butt till my wife woke up. I really wanted to get out there and ride but the lack of sleep kept me from doing it.

Eventually my wife and I went to San Francisco to the de Young museum to check out the King Tut exhibit. It was a bit of a disappointment to me. I expected a bit more. I was really pissed off that they didn't allow any photography. I was being sneaky and used my cellphone to take a couple of pictures then I felt guilty and turned the phone off. After I had already turned the phone off and I was just holding it in my hand, some douche comes up behind me and tells me to put my phone away. I show him that it's turned off and he says "No debating. Put it away." I gave him a look expressing my disgust and put it away. It was a total rip off. The tickets were $32.50 each and the stupid audio tours are $7 each. My wife and I chose not to get the audio tours. Everyone looked really stupid holding those things to their ears. But I digress....

Here is a picture for that jerk that gave me a hard time for having my phone out.

Back to the cycling. The de Young museum is in Golden Gate Park and there were so many people out there riding their bikes and jogging. It was a little cold for my tastes but it made me really feel like I should have gone out and rode. I still want to try taking BART out to San Francisco and riding around there. Golden Gate Park might be a good place to ride but it's pretty far from the BART station. I'm sure that I will go out and ride there sometime before the weather gets really bad. If anyone is interested please let me know.

After the museum and searching for a place to eat, we get home and crash. My wife is pretty tired and wants to take a nap and I get a call from a friend (a real person) asking me if I want to go out for a ride. Perfect! My wife gets to take a nap in peace without me bugging her and I get to take the ride that I was jonesing for.

I ride the couple of miles over to my friends house and we ride together around Windemere and Camp Parks. As we are riding up Dougherty back toward Windemere, we come across a woman riding at a slower pace. My friend calls out to her to let her know that we're coming up on her left. She looks back at us and I was pretty sure that she saw that there was two of us. Apparently she didn't notice me. She moves over and let's my friend by and I accelerate to get by too. I was prepared just in case she didn't see me coming so I unclipped my pedals and had my hands on the brakes. She unknowingly sways over to the left and cuts me off. My friend calls out to her, "One more! One more!" I hit the brakes hard and lock them up to prevent from hitting her. She screams out at the top of her lungs! She sounded as if someone was about to kill her. She instantly stops riding and I say "Sorry" about ten times as I pass by. I couldn't help but laugh. It was a good ride. We rode pretty hard and fast. The total distance for me was about 16 miles and it took about an 1:15 to complete the trek. I think I might go for another ride after work today but probably nothing quite as strenuous as that.
