Lands End – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

This photo was taken when my wife and I went to Cabo San Lucas back in July of 2012. We had a nice suite for us and my wife's family with a beautiful balcony and view of rock formations at Lands End. I had tried taking a similar photo the night before but there was a "Booze Cruise" in the middle of the shot and the lights from the boat were ruining it. I had to use a long exposure to get the shot lit correctly and the bright lights from the boat made it seem like there was a UFO landing in the middle of the bay. I had taken this photo at around 5AM just as the sun was rising. I woke up early...

Polite Honk

Around this time of year, many of us are hitting the highways whether to visit friends and family or to the shopping malls to buy Christmas gifts. Undoubtedly, there will be traffic incidents along the way and the car horn will be used. There are two very different honks that can be used. There is the angry honk and the polite honk. The angry honk is pretty easy to understand. When someone cuts you off and your ticked off and want to let the other driver know that you have been wronged and take exception to their actions. The polite honk, on the other hand, is more of a way of getting another...

Lover’s Point

The photos you see here were taken at Lover's Point in Pacific Grove, CA. I was visiting family that live in the area and wanted to experiment with some long exposure, night photography. At around 10PM as everyone else was going to bed, I grabbed up my camera gear and took the short drive out to Lovers Point. When I arrived and parked my car, I got out to find it to be very dark and foggy. I then trekked out to find a good spot to step up. Once I found a spot that I thought would make for a good photo, I set up my tripod and camera as best as I could on the rocky ground and in near total darkness....

Aluminyze.com Photos

I recently ordered aluminum prints of these 3 photos. I just got them a couple of days ago and I am quite impressed. They look good and are ready to be displayed immediately. The quality of the prints seems to be high and the sheets of aluminum give me the feeling that they will last for a very long time. I am still trying to decide where to display them in my home. One unusual thing that I noticed was the mounting point for the prints. For some reason they are set about a third of the way from the bottom of the sheet. I would expect the mounting point to be closer to the top of the print....

Le Negresco Hotel – Nice, France

This photo was taken in Nice, France on a trip my wife and I took to Europe last year. The night before this was taken, we were in Genova, Italy. A small storm had come through during the night and in the morning there was still some light rain and clouds as we drove from Genoa to Nice. When we arrived in Nice, it was still a bit cloudy and gray out although the rain had gone. We spent the afternoon exploring Nice and we wanted to head back to our hotel to relax a bit before we went out to dinner. As the sun was setting, there was an intense glow as the light reflected off the clouds. I had to get a shot...

Borrowlenses.com

I am renting a lens for my upcoming trip to North Carolina for Thanksgiving. I am picking up the lens from their offices tomorrow a couple of hours before my flight. I will post a full write up of my experience using their service when I return. If this works out as well as I hope, I expect that I will be using them quite a bit. I don't really have the money to drop thousands of dollars on a lens that I will only use a couple of times a year. It makes sense for me to rent a lens for those occasions when I need one. I have noticed a couple of things from just ordering and reserving a lens. The amounts...

El Arco – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The shot that you see was taken on a family trip to Cabo San Lucas back in July. I had been looking forward during our whole trip to coming out and getting a good shot of the arch. On our last full day there, we took a bottom less boat tour out to the arch and the nearby beach. I knew that on the boat tour would be my best chance to get the shot I was wishing to get. The arch is not accessible on foot and you can't see it from the shore. The only way would have been by boat or to be a pelican. As we ride from the beach toward the arch, I take a bunch of shots along the way which I know...

Competitiveness vs. Disrespect

I am a competitive person. When I play, I play to win. Who doesn't? But I try not to be disrespectful to those whom I am playing with or against. Yesterday, while playing basketball at work, a player on the other team was clearly getting frustrated and being a bit off of his game began playing recklessly. On one play, he flailed his arms and inadvertently hit me in the mouth. I know the guy on a personal level and know that he is a good guy and wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt me or anyone else. After getting hit in the mouth, I politely said to him, "Take it easy." These games are just...

Thoughts on the iPhone 5

It's been about a month now since I got an iPhone 5 and I'm a bit conflicted. It's a very nice phone but a bit underwhelming at the same time. Apple has managed to create amazing products with each successive version being leaps and bounds better than the previous one. I've come to expect innovative products from them. The iPhone 5 is thinner and lighter but how often are they going to use that as an improvement. A phone can only get so thin and light before it becomes to thin and light to hold in the hand. Thinner and lighter is officially played out. The other improvements are things that...
